Typhoon Mangkhut, Sept. 10, 2018
Typhoon Mangkhut damaged trees and knocked out power on Guam and Rota before moving away from the islands and developing into one of the most powerful storms of 2018.

Originally forecast to be a Category 3 or 4 typhoon when it hit Guam, Mangkhut ended up as a Category 2 storm when it passed to the north of the island the night of Sept 10.
Because the storm was expected to be more severe, shelters were filled with 2,100 people, about 45% of them children, officials reported at the time.
After Mangkhut passed, streets were covered in debris, and hazardous surf lasted for several days.
