What to expect in COR 4: Guam is always in a state of readiness
In an area where typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis and other disasters are always possible, Guam remains in a constant state of readiness.
Under Condition of Readiness 4, damaging winds (39 mph sustained or higher) may arrive on island within 72 hours. Because Guam is always at risk of damaging winds impacting the island within 72 hours, the island is always in Condition of Readiness 4.
This is a good time to make preparations with your family. Develop your emergency storm plan, and gather items for your emergency kit. If you buy a few things each week during the dry season, and spend a little time gathering documents, you will have a head start on the chaos of the rainy season.
If a potential storm begins to form in the distance, the National Weather Service will alert local officials and residents. A developing disturbance can take three to five days to reach Guam.
