What to expect in COR 3: Damaging winds 48 hours away

When there's a possibility the island will be hit with tropical storm force winds (39 mph or greater) within 48 hours, Guam goes into Condition of Readiness 3.

At this point, you need to get ready. Severe weather is still relatively far away, so you can safely work outdoors and indoors, and the stores are open and won't be as crowded as they will be tomorrow.

Check your emergency kit and replace any missing or expired items. Review your documents and make sure they are up to date. This is the time when you gas up the cars and start cleaning out the fridge.

You will want the inside of your home to be clean and the outside to be free of debris.

Pay attention to possible announcements about schools closing and shelters opening.

By now, you should have a good idea of when the storm will likely hit, how severe it might be and how close it is expected to come. Use this information to plan how your family will spend time during the storm. Do you have activities to keep children calm and occupied? Do you have any medications that need to be refilled? What do you need to do to make sure you are self-sufficient for a few days after the storm?

If you need to do anything, do it now. It will only get harder if you wait.
